Valbiska is a ferry port strategically situated on the western side of Island Krk, offering an advantageous position for connections with other islands. The term šotovento originates from the Italian sotto vento, meaning "beneath the wind" or "leeward."
The bay of Valbiska offers excellent shelter from the bora and jugo winds, which are the most common winds in this area. It serves as the departure point for fer-ries to Merag on the island of Cres and to Lopar on the island of Rab. The journey to Merag takes approximately 25 minutes, while it takes around 80 minutes to Lopar.
The route between Valbiska-Lopar and Valbiska-Merag is operated by Jadrolini-ja, the main Croatian shipping company for regular maritime transportation of passengers and vehicles with a long-standing tradition.
