More about Njivice
Formerly a quaint fishing village, Njivice, which is situated in the immediate vicin-ity of Omišalj, has blossomed into a celebrated tourist crossroads, drawing visi-tors from across Europe and beyond. Njivice has since evolved into a tourist des-tination, cherished for its distinct charm, and offers guest cannot refuse.
Njivice is first mentioned by Ivan Frankopan in a charter from 1474, although, judging by archaeological findings, the settlement is much older.
Some of the landmarks near Njivice include the Church of St. Quirinus, built in the Romanesque style and dating back to the 12th century, and in the area of the former village of Plužine, there are remains of the Church of St. George.
The first hotel was built in 1930, marking the beginning of the transformation of a small fishing village into one of the stronger tourist centers on the island today. In the vicinity of Njivice, there is a lake that is no longer intended for fishing but serves as a source of drinking water. Today, Njivice represent a tourist hub with modern accommodation facilities.
