More about Malinska
Malinska, locally known as Dubašnica, is a town situated in a picturesque bay on the northwest part of Island Krk, representing an important tourist destination. Malinska was once the main island port for the timber trade.
The history of Malinska begins in the 15th century with the construction of a mill (in the Chakavian dialect: malin), from which Malinska got its name.
It is interesting to note that the area of Dubašnica was the only part of Krk that did not have an urban center at the time, but rather, it was filled with forests and pastures. Oak trees, predominantly found in the forests, gave the area its name —Dubašnica (derived from the Croatian word for oak: dub).
The development of Malinska was defined by the year 1880, with the arrival of the first tourist steamship. Since then, a new branch of Malinska's economy has emerged — tourism. Initially, it was exclusively hunting tourism.
The golden years of Malinska's development unfolded in the 1970s with the inau-guration of the hotel complex Haludovo Palace Hotel. Upon its completion in 1971, it stood as the epitome of luxury along the eastern Adriatic coastline.
